DC Spotlight: Lunch at Oyamel

Today's post spotlights Oyamel, which is one of my favorite restaurants listed on the Washington, DC Restaurants page of this website.  Oyamel is one of several -- all fantastic -- DC restaurants owned by celebrity chef Jose Andres and his Think Food Group.  Oyamel offers Modern Mexican cuisine in a festive atmosphere.  It is the perfect place for any occasion -- lunch, dinner, happy hour, brunch, private parties, and special events.  Most importantly, Oyamel offers a separate vegetarian menu upon request.  Pictured below are a few of my favorite items for a quick and filling lunch.

Oyamel's signature tableside guacamole made with green tomatillo and served
with chips or flour tortillas (extra)

Plantain fritters stuffed with black beans and served with a chipotle chile and piloncillo sugar sauce (back)
and sauteed wild mushroom tacos with a Mexican cream sauce and potato crisps  (front)

TIP:  Oyamel does not advertise its separate vegetarian menu (or its other special diets menus), so be persistent when you request it because some servers don't even know it exists!
